Tuesday Morning Cribs
Heh, there’s such a clear difference between Mumbai and Bangalore. With my 3-week Bangalore mentality, every time I took a cab, I was all set for the cabbie to ask me, “50 extra, sir.” Ah, but no one bullshits here.

Warren and I took a cab from Pune to Bombay (Borivali, to be specific—less than 2.5 hours); one grand—no “extra, sir; petrol, sir” bullshit. A rick from Borivali to home; night meter charges. No bullshit.

Fuck! This is Bombay. Alive. No bullshit.

I recently visited Hyderabad. I was just disgusted at the rickshawallahs that cheated us royally. Being form Mumbai, I didn't know that one needs to set a price before getting into the rickshaw and the meters are just for show.

Mumbai and New York? Please excuse me while I finish laughing.

Really, dude, you should know better than to compare a gutter the size of a city with a real city.

But does being a gutter mean the city can’t rock?

Come on, man. Be nice. New york is crowded and filthy and grimy but you don't have to call it a gutter.

You will crib about Bangalore every time you return from Bombay. Bangalore seems to have got all of Bombay's troubles (heavy traffic, pollution, crime, high density of population, etc.) without getting its benefits (good roads, public transport, cops -- and life). A hardcore Bangalorean friend of mine was saying that Bangalore is going to the dogs.

Heh, I got 'the bullshit' in Pune last night.

Not quite sure how much I got cheated off. He was demanding 60
for a 4:30 (hmm is that 43:00?) fare. Sounded too much but I had a
50 note and didn't want a scene outside the hotel (heck free stay;) so
gave him the 50. He fucked off after I started asking for the meter.

So there went a tenner or more. Will have to get hold of a meter
card to confirm how much I got cheated out off.

($meter_reading*6 + 1) rounded off.

4.3 * 6 + 1 = 27.

If u had to pay HalfReturn [which is always decided beforehand] that would make it 40bucks.

last night I paid 41 for a 6.40 meter reading. No bullshit :)

Do you know Warren Noronha? He was at the Pune GNU event.

Yeah, was with him. Since I was speaking on Ruby, we decided to do some Ruby on Rails evangelism together. :-)

I guess there's plenty of bullshit at other levels, but yes i really like the fact that autorickshaws in Mumbai don't cheat, haggle etc. and don't refuse to travel for 'short distances'.

That kind of mentality is at its most prevalent in Delhi among the cities i've spent some time in, and that's chiefly why i like it(Delhi) the least.

Bangalore is a great city - you may end up liking it a lot eventually.

I like Bangalore for multiple reasons; and hate it for multiple reasons—one reason being home’s Bombay.

Just an extra 50? How come I was asked for double the last time I was in Bangalore?!

That was just for illustration.:-)

They charge double after mid-night, btw.
