YAML at BangPypers

YAML is this really cool thing that I’ve written about in the past. Coming Saturday, at the BangPypers meet, I’ll be discussing YAML. Of course, there’s some other cool stuff too. Please join us if you’re around.

(I hope Yahoo! Groups adds some kinda “events” feature, where moderators can post about upcoming group events, etc.)

I guess it's possible to send reminders about any event through calender feature in Yahoo Groupshttp://groups.yahoo.com/group//cal/ . All you need to do is add a event to the calender and ask it to send a reminder to the group. I haven't used this but seen people use it. Hope this helps.

We do use the reminder feature. However, I’d like to see a provision to RSVP, etc.

We were using Meetup until now, but it’s gone paid—that’s the reason we’re looking out for alternatives.

Yeah, saw some folks in the ruby-lang ml recommending it.

Python Pyrex wrapper for syck

The python wrapper for syck is currently missing a few bits and will segfault occasionally, we've written a pyrex wrapper that Why has put up on Rubyforge. We also currently host the PyYAML trac site and svn repsoitory.. If I can help in any way with your presentation or answer any questions just mail me at tim at pollenation-dot-net and I'll get back to you!! we're currently using Yaml as a configuration system for the new python.org site, the official website for the Government of Oman (not finished yet) and the Super League (uk rugby league) website. We're fairly happy that the Pyrex wrapper means no segfaults but I'd like to have a few more users before I'd be totally happy to rely on it in a dynamic application (we're just using it for configuration at the moment). Let me know if I can help

I use Syck for my purposes. No issues so far... maybe I don’t use those bits that segfault :-).

When you say 'configuration system', what exactly do you mean? Kinda curious.

Bearing in mind I'm talking about the python wrapper causing segfaults an not syck itself. We'd experienced segfaults when using anchors and and also when syck encountered some parsing errors. By configuration I mean that it's only used to read data and then only at the start of some long running process. We've also used yaml where clients have needed to specify complex data in more than one system. In this case, we've made user that any problem wouldn't affect the greater system. So far we've been really happy with it. The next step is to add a wrapper to syck's emitter which will create a lot more opportunities
