Bombay Rains

Bombay’s all screwed due to the rains. My dad left office (Kanjurmarg) at 16:30 or so and reached home the next day at 05:00! As much as all this is messy, the rains are one of many things that make Bombay so much fun. Yeah, well, maybe too much is not fun, though. A friend just wrote in saying, “there are dead animals floating at some places, sewage water flowing into the roads, broken shanties and homeless people shivering in the cold.” That’s definitely not a good thing.

Flights to/from Bombay have been cancelled or delayed and stuff. Don’t know if I’ll be able to get to Bombay on Friday. For all you know, the conference might not even happen.

Update: Due to the rain situation in Bombay, the conference stands postponed until further notice.

Update: The conference will now take place on 27th and 28th of August.

cant agree with that. Cos if something like that had to happen in Bangalore, It would take for ever to get back to normalcy, not that it matters for the rest of the nation, but thats how it would be. Its the spirit of Bombaites that keeps it going no matter what, and thats what makes it so special.

Who the hell said Bangalore can outcome Mumbai any time. You might not know what Mumbai is. Yaar kabhi Mumbai aa kar dekho . what we mumbai people are - and what Mumbai is. Bangalore is no where near to this historic place. Just bec Bangalore has had a few IT companies over the past few years does not make it the best place. Mumbai is the lungs of India, the day Mumbai stops to exist India will stop breathing and be dead. Nothing is going to change if some disasster hits Bangalore. All these years India has existed without Bangalore's IT industry. "Aabh chiti kee bhi paar nikal aayee?".
If you compare Mumbai's scene to Katrina disaster you will know what I am talking about. No Mumbaikar went and looted the shops there was no voilence reported and the people of Mumbai helped each other.
And if you dont know Mumbai has survived 13 bomb explosions in one day and has got back to its feet the next day ,in the 90's. These rains are nothing......Dont you DARE talk about Bangalore being better than Mumbai!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yaar kabhi aana Mumbai I will show you what really makes Mumbai so special. The unity of people, the tolerance of the people and the friendly attitued of the people all make this city the best in the world not just India. Not to mention its best food, its best shopping center and so much more ......
So who ever you are dont talk if you dont know Mumbai.
Aamchi Mumbai!!!!!! the great.
Dr Veena

Hopes down the drain

Hi Prem,

Mumbai's hopes and dreams to convert into modern city like Shanghai seems a long way off after what has happened in the previous week.

Bad administration and apathy to citizens is reflected in the monsoon disaster - that could so easily have been averted by cleaning up the storm drains.

The city will chug along though...but one must ask...how much is too much? More knocks like these and Mumbai will no longer be the favorite destination of business or any further investments.

Hmmm...hopefully Ganapati fest. will bring up some lost cheer that this city desperately needs :)
